How do I copy, paste, duplicate or delete elements?

You can copy, paste, duplicate or delete elements from the canvas or from Layouts & Elements.

Use these options when you want to reuse design details, copy an element to another design screen, duplicate an element on the same design screen, or remove something you no longer need.

Copy vs duplicate

Copy is best when you want to reuse an element on another design screen.

Duplicate is best when you want to create another version of the same element on the current design screen.

For example, if you want to use the same badge, shape, icon, title style or doodle on multiple design screens, use Copy element and then paste it where you need it.

If you want another version of the same element on the current design screen, use Duplicate.

Select the element you want to manage

First, select the element you want to copy, duplicate or delete.

You can do this in two ways:

  1. Click the element directly on the design screen.

  2. Open Layouts & Elements and select the element from the list.

Using Layouts & Elements is helpful when an element is hard to click, sits behind another element, overlaps with other elements, or is partly off the edge of the design screen.

Copy an element

To copy an element:

  1. Select the element you want to copy.

  2. Right-click the element and choose Copy element.

  3. You can also use the copy icon for that element in Layouts & Elements.

On Mac, the shortcut panel is ⌘ + C for copy.

You can copy elements such as text, devices, images, shapes, badges, icons, SVGs, Scribbles & Doodles and other design details.

Paste a copied element

To paste a copied element onto another design screen:

  1. Copy the element.

  2. Click the design screen where you want to paste it.

  3. Open Layouts & Elements.

  4. Click Paste copied element.

On Mac, the shortcut panel is ⌘ + V for paste.

After pasting, you can move or resize the element using drag-and-drop, or open Exact Dimensions if you want to position it precisely.

Duplicate an element

Use duplicate when you want another copy of an element on the same design screen.

To duplicate an element:

  1. Select the element you want to duplicate.

  2. Click the duplicate icon in the element controls.

On Mac, the shortcut panel is ⌘ + D for duplicate.

After duplicating, move the new element into position with drag-and-drop.

Delete an element

To delete an element:

  1. Select the element you want to remove.

  2. Click the delete icon in the element controls or in Layouts & Elements.

On Mac, the shortcut panel is Delete for deleting the selected element.

Deleting removes the element from the selected design screen.

What happens after I paste or duplicate an element?

After pasting or duplicating an element, you can continue editing it like any other element.

You can:

  • move or resize it with drag-and-drop

  • fine-tune its position with Exact Dimensions

  • change its settings in the edit panel

  • move it forward or backward in the layer order

  • copy, duplicate or delete it again

If you move or resize the element on the canvas, click Save positions when you are finished.

What if I copied the wrong element?

Select the correct element and copy it again.

If you pasted or duplicated an element by mistake, select the unwanted element and delete it.

You can also use undo if needed. On Mac, the shortcut panel is ⌘ + Z for undo.
