How do I change the background?
You can change the background of your screenshots in a few different ways, depending on the look you want.
Backgrounds can be solid colours, gradients, your own uploaded images, preset images or Unsplash images.
You can set a background across your whole screenshot set, or customise the background for one individual screenshot.
Choose the right background option
Background type | Best for |
|---|---|
Project / panoramic background | Creating one background across all screenshots. This can be a solid colour, gradient or image. |
Individual screenshot background | Giving one screenshot its own solid colour, gradient or background style. |
Preset / Unsplash background image | Using a ready-made image, gradient image or photo background. |
Background-style Image element | Adding a movable decorative background asset, such as a blob, wave, bloom or backdrop. |
A panoramic background is useful when you want your screenshot set to feel connected. An individual screenshot background is useful when one screenshot needs its own colour, gradient or overlay.
Add a solid colour background across all screenshots
Use a project or panoramic solid colour when you want the same background colour across your screenshot set.
To add a solid colour background:
Click the Background button in the top toolbar.
Under Panoramic style, choose the solid colour option.
Select the colour you want to use.
This is the simplest background option and works well when you want a clean, consistent look across all screenshots.
Add a panoramic gradient background
Use a panoramic gradient when you want one gradient to flow across your screenshot set.
To add a panoramic gradient:
Click the Background button in the top toolbar.
Under Panoramic style, select the gradient icon.
Choose whether the gradient should be radial or linear.
Click the colour circle pins to choose your gradient colours.
Use the position slider to adjust the colour placement.
Use the angle slider to change the gradient direction.
You can also click Presets and choose one of the pre-created gradients.

Add a solid colour or gradient to one screenshot
Use an individual screenshot background when you want one screenshot to have its own background.
To change the background for one screenshot:
Click the screenshot you want to edit.
Open the Background tab in the edit panel.
Under Background style, choose either a solid colour or gradient.
If using a solid colour, select the colour you want.
If using a gradient, choose radial or linear, select your colours, and adjust the position and angle.
You can also click Presets and choose one of the pre-created gradients.
An individual screenshot background sits on top of your project or panoramic background.

Copy a background to other screenshots
If you create an individual screenshot background and want to reuse it, use Copy Screenshot Settings.
To copy the background settings:
Open the screenshot with the background you want to copy.
Click Copy Screenshot Settings.
Select Background Settings.
Apply the settings to the screenshots you want to update.
This is useful when you want several screenshots to share the same individual background colour, gradient or style.
Use a background image
You can use your own image, a preset image or an Unsplash image as a background.
To add a background image:
Click the Background button in the top toolbar.
Under Panoramic style, make sure no solid colour or gradient style is selected.
Under Panoramic image, click Select background.
Upload your own image, choose a preset image, or browse Unsplash.
Select the background image you want to use.
Use the image rotation dropdown to adjust the angle if needed.
To clear the image, hover over it and click the X.

Use a background-style Image element
Some background-style assets can also be added as Image elements.
Use an Image element when you want the background asset to behave like a normal movable layer. For example, you might add a decorative blob, gradient image, wave, bloom or backdrop-style asset and place it behind other elements.
If you want to change the main screenshot background itself, use the Background tab or the top toolbar Background button instead.
Which background should I use?

One gradient across all screenshots | Project / panoramic gradient |
Your own image across all screenshots | Panoramic image |
A preset or Unsplash image across all screenshots | Panoramic image |
A different colour, gradient or image on one screenshot | Background tab in the edit panel |
A movable decorative background asset | Image element |
The same individual background on multiple screenshots | Copy Screenshot Settings → Background Settings |
